Whether you live with diabetes or prediabetes, the road ahead can take you where you want to go. But first, you need to get in the driver’s seat.
One in twelve Americans has diabetes. Seven million people live with the disease but don’t know they have it. Another 84 million have prediabetes —a reversible condition that can lead to diabetes if you don’t change course.
Diabetes maintenance can seem complex, but it’s not that different from taking care of a car. You have to put the right fuel in your tank, follow a maintenance schedule, and occasionally come in for a pit stop with your care team—including a primary care provider, nurses, registered dietitians, and occasionally specialists (should symptoms arise).
